'Happy' and 'enthusiastic' primary school in Bulwell is celebrating after Ofsted praises improvements
In 2011 Ofsted told the school it had serious weaknesses
A primary school in Bulwell is celebrating after Ofsted inspectors said they had 'successfully tackled' areas for improvement and continue to provide a good quality of education.
Snape Wood Primary and Nursery School in Aspen Road has been praised by the education watchdog in its most recent inspection on February 13th 2018.
Inspector Christine Watkins said pupils are "enthusiastic" and "happy" at the school.
She said: "Pupils work enthusiastically on activities that are generally well-matched to their abilities. Teaching has improved in mathematics, with more emphasis on pupils solving problems and explaining the reasons for their answers.
"Pupils and parents and carers speak warmly about the caring ethos of the school. Pupils say that they are very happy at the school. They describe it, with pride, as ‘a very happy place,’ where, ‘you can learn good things’."
The report also praised the school's head teacher, Shewley Choudhury, for her "positive" influence on the school.
In 2011 Ofsted told the school it had serious weaknesses and it was branded inadequate however, each inspection since then has seen improvements and now it is 'good' in all areas.
Ms Watkins added: "During 2016, the school went through a period of instability in leadership and governance. Following your appointment as head teacher in May 2017, you introduced positive changes to the school.
"As a result, staff and governors speak highly of your decisive leadership. They have confidence in your ability to bring further improvements."
The school's head teacher Shewley Choudhury told the Post that the school nursery had been refurbished, the grounds had been enhanced and areas of the school were changed to create a "second home" for the pupils.
She said: "I am so proud that the commitment, passion and hard work of the staff, governors, parents, carers, and most importantly, the pupils has been recognised by Ofsted.
"We have come a long way and are determined to continue to excellence. What a privilege to work in such a rewarding and supportive community.
"Snape Wood is a truly unique and special place to work and we are determined to provide the best provision and equip our children with the skills to become successful life long and well-rounded learners.
"We are a small school that makes a big difference, we ensure all children regardless of their starting point have the best opportunities to succeed. We were determined to ensure that Snape Wood was going to be on the map."
