Welcome to our EYFS UNIT
Hello and welcome to our class page. On our page you will find lots of information about our learning, important notices and details of the children's achievements.
Our Continuous Provision
Within the unit, we have a large indoor and outdoor space that is used to provide lots of stimulating activities that allow the children to learn through play. See some of our areas for learning below:
Our curriculum webs are a great way to share which themes your child will be exploring this year. See below for more details.
Our PRIDE values
At Snape Wood, we believe that every child should feel proud to be a part of our school and so we have introduced PRIDE points. Each letter represents an aspect of our school values:
P - Positive attitude
R - Respectful
I - Inquisitive
D - Determination
E - Empathy
Reception will be joining the whole school on a Friday for the PRIDE awards. Each week a child who has demonstrated our PRIDE values in school will have a chance of winning the PRIDE award.
Things you can do at home
To help your child become independent, why not try some of these activities at home?
- Let your child dress and undress independently including doing up their own buttons, coat and shoes
- Encourage them to tidy up their bedrooms or help with the washing up
- Use the toilet as independently as possible and get them to wash their hands on their own
- Use a knife and fork to eat their dinner
- Spend time sharing books before bed
- Talk about everyday things after school or whilst travelling on the bus or in the car
- Ask questions and be observant whilst shopping or taking walks to the park
- Recognise letters of the alphabet and the sounds they make
- Practise writing letters
- Practise writing their name
- Identify different numbers in the environment
- Practise counting to 20 forwards and backwards - link to songs
- Sing nursery rhymes
In EYFS, we follow the behaviour traffic light system. All children start the day on green. If a child breaks one of our school rules, they are given a reminder and asked to change their behaviour. If the child does not correct their behaviour, we move the child's name to orange. If there is still no improvement, the child's name is moved to red.
Children are given the opportunity to move up the traffic light system at every stage and we encourage children to work their way back up to green. If a child is on red and their behaviour does not improve they are sent for timeout in another classroom.
Red Cards are sent home if a child is on red at the end of the day (because they have not worked off red) or if they display extreme behaviour. If your child brings home a red card, please take this opportunity to talk to your child about their behaviour. Please sign and return the card.
Green Cards are sent home on a Friday to children that have displayed positive behaviour and finished the week without getting a red card. It is an opportunity for both school and parents to celebrate positive behaviour. The children really enjoy receiving green cards and look forward to bringing them home.
In EYFS, we will continue to use Class Dojo to keep you up to date with our learning. Class Dojo is a great way to communicate with the class teacher, receive important news and see your child's achievements.
If you are not already signed up to Class Dojo, let us know and we can get you connected.
Children in Reception have P.E every Friday.
P.E kit should include; a plain white T shirt, black/navy shorts, leggings or tracksuit bottoms and black trainers/plimsolls.
If your child wears earrings, please remove these on a P.E day. This is to ensure your child's safety whilst taking part in our P.E lessons. Staff are not able to remove earrings for your child.
