Teacher: Mr Johnson
Teaching Assistant: Miss Hayes
We are very excited about how much your child will learn and grow during their time at Snape Wood, and especially during their final year here in Oak Class.
We operate a one-way system for drop off and collection. In the morning, your child will enter school via the main school gate and walk to their classroom. At home time, you can enter school via the main school gate and wait at your child's classroom door. Once children are dismissed, follow the path round to the Hive exit which leads back to Aspen Road.
Teachers and TA's are unable to talk to parents and carers at the classroom door at the end of the day. If you need to discuss any issues, please make an appointment at the school office or send a message via Class Dojo.
Please can all children bring a drinking bottle with water (no juice) into school everyday. Please put your child's name on their bottle.
In Oak class we will continue to use Class Dojo to keep you up to date with our learning. Class Dojo is a great way to communicate with the class teacher, receive important news and see your child's achievements.
If you are not already signed up to Class Dojo, let us know and we can get you signed up.
At Snape Wood, we believe that every child should feel proud to be a part of our school and so we have introduced PRIDE points. Each letter represents an aspect of our school values:
P - positive attitude
R - respectful
I - inquisitive
D - determination
E - empathy.
We will be using class dojo in the classroom to record PRIDE points. Children can still collect points and spend them in the PRIDE points shop.
Studies have shown that reading supports the children's subject knowledge in other areas of the curriculum.
Reading is really important at Snape Wood. We want all children to become confident readers, who enjoy reading for pleasure. To support us in this, please make sure you read with your child for at least fifteen minutes a day and write this in your child’s reading diary. Reading diaries should be in school everyday. We will monitor reading weekly and pride points will be awarded for reading at home.
Oak Class will have their PE each Monday and Friday.
P.E kit should include; A plain white T shirt, black/navy shorts, leggings or track suit bottoms and black trainers/plimsolls.
If your child wears earrings, please remove these on a PE day. This is to ensure your child's safety whilst taking part in our PE lessons.
In Class Oak, we follow the behaviour traffic light system. All children start the day on green. If a child breaks one of our school rules they are given a reminder and asked to change their behaviour. If the child does not correct their behaviour we move their name down to orange. If there is still no improvement the child's name is moved to red. Children are given the opportunity to move up the traffic light system and we encourage children to work their way back up to green. If a child is on red and their behaviour does not improve they are sent for time in on a different table in class. This allows the child to think about their behaviour and make a positive change. If there behaviour carries on in their time in session, the child will have timeout in our partnered class.
Red cards are sent home if a child is on red at the end of the day or if they display extreme behaviour. If your child brings home a red card, please take the opportunity to talk to your child about their behaviour and sign and return the card.
Green cards are sent home on a Friday to children that have displayed positive behaviour and finished the week without moving off green on our behaviour ladder. It is an opportunity for both school and parents to celebrate positive behaviour. The children really enjoy receiving the cards and look forward to bringing them home. If you sign and return your child's green card, they are entered into a prize draw.
Please encourage your child to bring their green card back into class on Monday mornings.
Reading diaries should be in school everyday.
Pupils should read for at least 20 minutes everyday and record this in their diaries. Your child should be reading at least three times a week at home. The children can record if they have read themselves.
Reading diaries need to be in school everyday. We will be checking these daily.
Spellings are tested weekly. These are updated to Dojo and given to the children.
Children need to bring a water bottle everyday.
If you have any questions or concerns about your child, please make an appointment at the office or send a message on Class Dojo.
Due to confidentiality, we are unable to speak to parents in public areas.
Thank you for your support
